Gadget envy no more
I've finally given in to techno-consumerism and satisfied my intense gadget envy. Yes, I've finally bought an iPod!
It's taken me the better part of one year's worth of agonizing and internal debate. (I want it, but its so expensive. But i really want it! Do I need one? Maybe I should save the money for something else... ARRRGGHHH, BUT I WANT IT REALLY, REALLY BADLY. Look at your credit card bills...! SIGH... BUT, BUT, I NEED IT!! - Live 8 and the Tsunami of last year didn't help me with the guilt either) And so the agonizing continued as i looked despondently at all the little white earphones in the subway or on the street. Everyone from your regular white collared corporate climber, sexy Queen St hipsters, yoga loving females, head bobbin' -hiphopin' -baller doods all have one so that means I must have one too.
Perhaps its my Virgoan practicality that causes me such anguish over frivoulous purchases or maybe its just my ever mounting debt load.
Anyway, a year of agonizing, weeks (if not, months) of time spent uploading CDs and dloading mp3s, $400 odd dollars, 12 hours of charging and uploading, 3385 songs, 15.87GB later and I awake to a freshly loaded iPod sitting there twinkling in the morning light, warm to the touch and looking as slick and cool as frosty shot of Belvedere vodka. I open my blurry, sleepy eyes and paw my new toy with delicate caresses leaving my fingerprints all over its gleaming surface. This kind of reminds me of waking to a lover ... sigh ... alas, were it so.
I leave my place this morning, proudly stuffing the little white ear buds in my freshly cleaned ears and I press on the click wheel, "shuffle". Ahhhhh, I amble along to the subway, smiling.
These are the very first tracks to be played:
1. The Unforgiven - Metallica
2. Crazy In Love - Beyonce ft. Jay-Z
3. Burn! - Usher
4. I will Love Again (Hex Hector Remix) - Lara Fabian
5. We Let The Stars Go - Prefab Sprout
6. If I like It, I Just Do It - Jamiroquai
7. I Want To Go Outside in The Rain - The Stylistics
8. Alison - Elvis Costello
9. Brown Sugar - The Rolling Stones
10. ELM - Ken Ishii (spinning @ Reel Up)
